Baby Love

February 1, 2009 by Crafty Teacher Lady +

Next weekend I have a baby shower for my good friend Beth who is expecting her first baby at the beginning of April. Luckily it is a girl! I say luckily because it seems that there are far more patterns that are “easy” to sew for little girl apparel than there are for little boy apparel and I just happen to have a few patterns for adorable little dresses!

The outfit I chose to make was pretty easy overall but the most difficult task was figuring out which size to make. You see, the first problem is calculating how old the baby will be when it is the appropriate season to wear the outfit (next summer so she will be about 14 months old). As I don’t have a 14-month-old to measure, the second problem is figuring just how big (weight, belly size, cute-chunky-baby thigh size, etc.) to make the outfit. I tried looking online for measurements with no luck and even called my friend Katie who was nice enough to measure her little Drew (most adorable 7-month old I have EVER seen!) so I could at least ball-park my measurements.

Here is the finished product! And here is baby Drew when he was a newborn!

On another note, I have some sad sewing news to report. The apron that I featured in the previous post was recently RUINED by a “handy man” (and I use that term loosely) who works for the condo management company. He came in to repair damage to the ceiling from a roof leak that happened over a year ago (they work really quickly around here) and apparently he wasn’t very careful when he was painting the ceiling because he got paint on the front of the apron, the back of the pillows I also mentioned in a previous post, several picture frames, the wood floor, and even a plant! Needless to say, I was VERY upset. Now I have to find time to make a new apron because it is/was a gift for someone!

Here is the evidence:Boo! Very upsetting!

Our daughter has worked so hard in physical therapy to overcome some gross motor challenges related to balance and coordination, most notably learning to walk independently. With some encouragement, she stood up and walked over for a hug! This seemingly mundane moment for most families is SUCH a huge milestone for us- one that is a culmination of YEARS of hard work. Words cannot express how proud I am to be her mom and to have a front row seat to true determination, perseverance, and patience…today was an awesome day and makes me so hopeful for the future! 💗

I hope my daughter is building core memories of her time here each summer as well…video captured while on a July Fourth family cruise in front of Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

I can’t get enough of these cute visitors (and also know I won’t be spending a ton on landscaping since most plants won’t stand a chance)! 🤣

Buying an older home vs building new can have its perks- one being an established yard (which I just fell in love with). We’ve got neighbors all around, however, the backyard feels pretty private thanks to landscaping done years ago by the previous owners!
Facebook Marketplace for the win! I’m so in love w Facebook Marketplace for the win! I’m so in love with my recent find…the curves are just so darling! I often see many great finds on Marketplace but because I don’t have a truck or trailer, I have to miss out on a lot. I knew this desk would fit in the back of my SUV so I jumped at the chance to grab it. What’s your favorite secondhand find?
