Living Room Color Board

January 15, 2012 by Crafty Teacher Lady +

My living room is ‘blah’…I’m fairly certain ‘blah’ isn’t a technical term but if I had to define it, ‘blah’, would mean:  lacking personality, color, and overall aesthetic appeal. There are certain elements that I like but I certainly need to bring in more color, paint/change my coffee & end tables, and possibly find more furniture, as the space is quite a bit bigger than the living room in my condo.

THE PICTURE BELOW IS NOT MY LIVING ROOM…It’s what my living room wants to be someday (it’s from Caitlin Creer Interiors):

I love the neutral furniture with pops of color. My biggest conundrum has stemmed from finding colors that will work with my current living room set (chair, ottoman, and couch).  I’m not in love with the color or style of the set but it was the first set I bought a few years back and I can’t afford a new one at this point so I have to make it do!

Thus far I’ve gone with a khaki/gray color on the walls (Pussywillow by Sherwin Williams) and an overall gray scheme for curtains, pillows, etc. The chair and couch are what I’d call ‘khaki green’, a very difficult color to photograph and with which to coordinate a color scheme…until this:

I’m in LOVE with the navy dogwood print fabric from Warm Biscuit!! I’m not sure why I never thought to bring navy into the space, as I have always loved a navy/green color combination! But, I will now use this print as inspiration to pull colors from & to design the entire room.

I’m loving that aqua lamp from Lowes and some sort of trellis pattern rug to pull from the colors in the fabric.  There’s also an aqua dogwood print that coordinates with the navy.  Since the fabric is on the pricier side (I found some on Etsy but only in a small quantity), I only purchased two yards to make pillows or framed art with. It’s a good start!

*Update: Here’s what the living room looks like thus far…

Hi, can you tell me the source for the green trellis rug? It's so cute! Loving your room with the Pussywillow color, is it a greige color or is there a hint of green in it? Adding you to my bloglovin account! ps: that inspiration room is to die for!! Thanks!

I'm not sure of the source for the rug but Rugs USA has a ton of similar styles and colors. The paint color is really a greige/taupe color, no hint of green (at least in the rooms in which I've used it)! Thanks for stopping by!

Little glimpses of pattern mixing around our home! Little glimpses of pattern mixing around our home! 😍💗

Please don’t be fooled, though…these are close up shots for a reason- the house is FULL of moving boxes, piles of stuff to be organized and put away, and the DIY project list is LONG!

But finding small little pretty corners is bringing me a little bit of joy and I hope they do the same for you, friend! 💗🙂#
I’m nowhere near unpacked or ready to “properly” d I’m nowhere near unpacked or ready to “properly” decorate, but we needed some functional storage and a “drop zone” near the entrance we most use so I threw together this little area with things I already had…and the best part is, everything is thrifted! 😍

Eventually, I’ll put wallpaper above the beadboard and will give the fireplace a makeover. But for now, just trying to tackle the endless boxes to unpack and breakdown (peep that pile of cardboard at the end of the video)!!
Life Update: I bought a house! This has been in th Life Update: I bought a house! This has been in the works for a while but I wasn’t quite sure how/when/what I wanted to share. If you’ve been here since my Maine days, you know just how much I enjoy sharing all things DIY and home decor and I’m looking forward to doing just that.

I know questions will inevitably arise about the circumstances of this move but I will likely keep those details private. We are still in Virginia, not too far from the farm, and are settling into our new routine.

In true ‘Crafty Teacher Lady’ style, this house is a fixer upper, just like most of my previous homes. It’s in a lovely neighborhood in an adorable town and I’m excited to make some happy memories here as I turn this little house into our home!

C requested pink walls (which I obliged) and Stanley has also already come to visit a few times during family movie nights and he has given his ‘seal of approval’ to the fenced-in backyard! 🤣🥰🐕

More to share soon (likely in stories) as I continue to tackle my very long list of home projects! 💗
