Summer Vacation Bucket List

July 1, 2013 by Crafty Teacher Lady +

Hello loyal readers of the Crafty Teacher Lady blog! I’ve been busy with the craziness that ensues at the end of every school year and have entered into summer vacation with a long list of things I’d like to accomplish! I have a difficult time just sitting around and if I’m at home, I feel compelled to tackle some sort of project. Here’s my summer ‘bucket list’ (in no particular order):

1. Redecorate the Living Room
Of all the rooms in my house, the living room decor has never really thrilled me. So, I’m adding a bit of color and have found some new furniture pieces that I already love…it’ll look something like this:

2. Visit Peak’s Island
Although I’ve lived in Maine almost my entire life, I’ve NEVER been to Peak’s Island! I live just outside of Portland and am thus there almost every weekend, however, Peak’s is accessed only by ferry service. It’s a pretty place to visit and I’m making it a priority this summer!

3. Run a 10k
You may remember that last summer I used the Couch to 5k running plan to successfully train for and complete my first 5k. Since then, I’ve been a running machine and have actually learned to really love it (ok maybe not LOVE it but at least a don’t MIND it). This summer my plan is to run my first 10k and was lucky enough to make it into the Beach to Beacon race lottery. It’s a pretty challenging course but I’m excited to reach a new goal!

4. Go Horseback Riding
I’ve only done this once, when I was about 13, and I hated it. I think it’s time I give those beautiful horses another chance…plus, one of my friends really wants to go and I’m always up for trying new things!

5. Build a Deck & Patio
My house is almost two years old and I’ve lived without a deck for too long (yes, this is a want, not a need)! So, one of my friends has graciously offered to come and build a deck with me! Just bought a patio table and chairs from Target on super clearance in anticipation!

6. Go on a Road Trip
I’m going on a short trip to Burlington, Vermont to do a little mini ‘foodie’ tour! Chocolate…cheese…wine…and of course, Ben and Jerry’s! Should be fun!

7. Read!!
I need to slow down and be OK with just sitting around and reading a good book! My favorite genre would have to be autobiographies…I just like reading about other people’s lives through their own voices. My FAVORITE of all time is Tina Fey’s Bossypants! I read it once every summer because it’s just that funny!

8. Concert at Fenway
I’m SOOOOO excited about this one…my best girlfriends and I are going to see Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z in concert at Fenway Park this summer!!! Should be a wicked fun time!

9. Eat at Holy Donut
This may sound like a weird item to list, but this donut shop has gotten rave reviews!! Since donuts are literally my favorite food on earth, a visit (or two) seems like a no-brainer!!

OK…I’ll let you know how I do in terms of accomplishing these goals! Happy Summer!

Absolutely gorgeous afternoon making memories with Absolutely gorgeous afternoon making memories with my sweet girl! We picked the best berries, then went home where my little sous chef practiced her fine motor skills by cutting the strawberries for homemade shortcake- my all time favorite dessert (and quickly becoming C’s favorite, too)! 🍓

The last couple of months have been super challenging regarding some unexpected health challenges for me, resulting in an emergency surgery 4.5 weeks ago, and getting back to feeling good enough to go on outings like today was at the top of my priority-list! I felt good and had a wonderful time with my best little bud!! 🥰

Also shout out to @browdersfreshpickins for allowing us to pick all along the outside rows so that C could easily use her walker in the field!
Happy Easter from our (reluctant) Bunny Stanley 🐶 and our happy little Reese’s-loving gal!! 🥰
It’s always such a wonderful start to the weeken It’s always such a wonderful start to the weekend when a visit to @cafe_davina is on the agenda!! If you haven’t been, this adorable coffee house and crêperie is located within the beautiful grounds of the @thepinnerhouse, a boutique inn with cozy rooms and cottages! Both are a must visit in downtown Suffolk, VA!
Some adorable Valentine’s Day printable cards an Some adorable Valentine’s Day printable cards and decor from my @littlecpaperie Etsy shop! Head to my profile @craftyteacherlady OR @littlecpaperie for a link to download any of these cute items and spread some love! 🥰💗🥰💗🥰💗
I added some sweetness to C’s room for Valentine I added some sweetness to C’s room for Valentine’s Day! 💗 Even the little holidays are so much more fun with a little one here to celebrate!

💗 This heart garland is easy to make using the printable I created for my Etsy shop @littlecpaperie…just print on card-stock, cut out the hearts, punch some holes, and thread onto some cute string! Make as many garlands as you wish, in any length! 🥰 Now go spread some love! 💗💗💗
And just like that, she’s 4!! ❤️🥰🍓❤️🥰❤️

We had a small family party while in Maine and I had so much fun putting together all the details! My favorite part of the decor was making the cake toppers to put onto a plain white bakery cake (I also added some fresh strawberries). I printed some strawberries and flowers on card stock and glued them to wood skewers. I made the pennant flags and bunting out of fabric from Joannes and used the same gingham for the table runners. It brings me so much joy to put together a little birthday party for my sweet little girl! Watching her grow and seeing her personality blossom is the greatest privilege of my life…she’s the best thing to ever happen to me!

And on that note, Happy Birthday, C, and Happy New Year to all of you!
