Engineer Print Hallway Photos

Project number three of operation “finish the entryway” involved framing and hanging some family photos. I looked through my digital albums and found some vintage photos of family members that I scanned into iPhoto.  I purchased six silver square ‘Ribba’ frames from Ikea last year and they sat in the basement since then.  Here is their new home…

Engineer Print Framed Photos
Having six 12″x12″ prints made up was going to be expensive…probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $60.  Instead, I used Photoshop to create one large 2’x3′ print made up of all six 
 photos. Then I went to my local Staples and had one engineer print made for $3.77! I just brought the image in on a flash drive and they printed it within 5 minutes. An engineer print is large and inexpensive but the paper is thin and the photos must be black and white.
Before framing, I cut out each 12″x12″ picture and used spray adhesive to secure to the back of thick scrapbook paper.  I’ve found that when I have framed thin paper in the past, it has wrinkled in any type of humidity so mounting to a thick card stock will hopefully prevent this problem.

The pictures make me so happy every time I come home and see them hanging up in the entryway! Here’s another view of these photos that are oh-so-special to me

Starting in the top left and working clockwise:
1) My mother in white and my aunt in black when they were children growing up in Montreal

2) Me as a baby making a mess out of a popsicle while sitting on my aunt’s lap!

3) My grandmother circa 1945, somewhere in Aroostook County, Maine.  I LOVE her striped dress and bobby socks!

4) This picture is really a combination of two images…the boy on the right is my cousin Alex.  My aunt posted this picture of him on Facebook last year and I immediately thought ‘where have I seen this picture before?”.  Then I remembered I had a picture of our grandfather when he was a teenager and wouldn’t you know he had the exact same expression as Alex! So I merged the two images together and now they are in my hallway!

5) This picture is of my dad when we was a boy…successful fishing trip I’d say!  It’s amazing how many people have come over and asked if this picture was of my brother, Jon!  Nope, of Dad but Jon is his ‘mini-me’!

6) The last image is of my grandparents shortly after they were married.  They were so young…I think my grandmother was only 16!

    Hello! I have been toying with the idea of doing a symmetrical gallery wall in my downstairs hallway. What size Ikea Ribba frames do you have hanging up? Are they the 19 3/4 x 19 3/4?
